Will The Real Rip Hamilton, Please Stand up!

-Jumpoff J

And Then There Were Four...

Well folks, we've got our Final Four. Last night, Michigan State and UNC did work and join Uconn and Nova in the Motor City to determine the 2009 Div I National Champions. And to make things even more interesting, we've currently got three more line left in the Dannyboy's pool. Shit will be going down Saturday night. Everyone involved in the pool is going to be meeting up and most likely renting out a spot to catch the games. It's going to be insanity!

When Bry-guy told me that we were still in contention to win that monnnnaaayyyyy, words couldn't express how ecstatic I was. 419k payout? My dude Ray-J's expression sums up how I felt.

Catch you haters Saturday!

Why Are We Cursed?

Im watching the Nova/Pitt game last night, when i get a text message. I open it up, its from Mikey Fells. It reads "Scottie Reynolds is the second most overrated player in the country." (The most is James Harden, from Arizona State). The game will go down as one of those epic games, that doesnt happen very often. Exciting throughout.

Pitt down 4 with under 10 seconds. Dejuan Blair makes a layup, down 2 now. On the inbounds play Reggie Redding tries for the homerun pass, and its not a good one. Nova player attempts to throw it off Dixon of Pitt, but to no avail. Dixon dribbles up, finds Levance Fields, and gets fouled. Fields makes the first, down 1. Jay Wright (formally of Hofstra) calls a timeout, trying to ice Fields. Fields is money, and nets the second. Tie game. 5 seconds left.

In my head i'm thinkin OT. For our pool, we wanted Pitt to win. Although it wasnt he worst thing if Nova won, we wanted Pitt none the less. Nova has trouble inbounding, but has a great play. A give and go on the inbounds, Dante Cunningham to Scottie Reynolds. Reynolds pushes the ball downcourt, yes the same overrated Scottie Reynolds. He drives the lane, puts it up, and......

it falls. Nova up 2. .5 seconds left. Fields throws up a prayer, and its off. Nova Wins, Nova Wins.

SERVEDDDDDDD

Why are we so cursed? If Mikey Fells didnt send the text, there is no doubt in my mind, Reynolds missed that shot, and Pitt wins.

Whats The Point?

Why is the West and Midwest Region having their Sweet 16/Elite 8 rounds in these ginormous stadiums? Watching the UConn/Missouri game being played at University of Phoenix Stadium? Tomorrows game between Louisville/Michigan State will be played in Indianapolis, and the crowd will look weak as hell yet again. I like when the games are played at normal BASKETBALL arenas. Its dissapointing seeing so many seats empty when they pan out. I understand that the crowd size is just about the same, if not a little bigger, but it just looks stupid. Play the games at Canseco Fieldhouse, or at the home of the Phoenix Suns.

epic FAIL

#6 and counting....

Today, at James M. Shuart Stadium, Hofstra took down Robert Morris, and improved to 6-1 on the year. When the rankings come out later this week, hopefully Hofstra will move up a slot or 2. I am not a know it all about lacrosse, but I have started to pick up things along the way. If Hofstra wasnt this good, 100 percent I could care less about the sport, but Hofstra is good, therefore I care.

We will be at Giants Stadium next week for the action. Cant wait.

Lets go Pride.

Your Wish Has Been Grant-ed

Another sad day in the life of a Mid Major program. Last night, VCUs coach Anthony Grant bolted for the big SEC. He became the coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

As a Mid Major fan, I dont know how i like this. On one hand it's a great honor for Grant, and even VCU, but on the other, it's almost like a slap in the face. Grant is basically saying "Hey, thanks VCU, I used you guys to get my name out there. While i took you to the dance twice, I see bigger and better things at Alabama." That is all fine and dandy, but while finishing that sentence I now know how I feel. I dont like this move. I hope Alabama falls flat on their face next year. I like Anthony Grant, and love what he has done for the CAA, but if all goes to the shitter for him next year, it will show off VCUs talent, and less of Anthony Grant.

This always seems to happen. The previous coach at VCU was Jeff Capel (a Dukie baby). He left the school for the Oklahoma Sooners. That was a job well done, as tomorrow night they are playing for a spot in the Final 4. The cool thing about him leaving was, that VCU had it in the contract clause that if Capel were to leave VCU, he would have his new team sign a multi-year contract to play them. Next year, Oklahoma will be coming into the Siegal Center in Richmond,VA.

I love the CAA, and dont like hearing news like this, but such is life. Grant had to chase that paper, and its understood. Just dont expect me to root for him.

Try to Keep Up!

So, what does Jumpoff J do March when there's no college basketball games? (relevant ones at least)

I know I'm late but check it, one of my co-workers put me onto ESPN's "Streak for Cash) contest in which you choose the winner from a selected amount of games. Apparently, the first person to 27 straight wins, will walk away with [Dr. Evil Voice] One Milllllllllion dollars [/Dr. Evil Voice]

Being the sports guru that I am, your boy Jumpoff J currently has a 7 game win streak. *see image above* So I challenge all of you to join in on the fun and maybe you'll get lucky and I'll lose. You know, be generous and let you bums catch up.

Peace out haters.

1-2-3 Pride

Tuesdays in March are not an ideal day for sports usually. Today, was an awesome day. I got home from work, yadda yadda yadda, I turned on ESPN U and found the Hofstra vs. Army Lacrosse game on. For some of my fans out there, they might know of my previous blog, sportsmark.blogspot.com. It was for my sports marketing class back in Junior year. Yes I got the highest grade in the class, but that's expected. What I didnt know, was that I would still follow Hofstra Lax action.

The blog was about the Life and Times of a Mid Major. Hofstra is a Mid Major in every sense of the word, and I love when they do well. I wrote about how our prior coach John Danowski, was going to leave the Pride of Hofstra, and head down to Tobacco Road, and take the helm of the Duke Program. Jokes on him. I think.

Fast forward to tonight. Hofstra is ranked 8th in entire country, and have won many close games. Were on the road taking on a very tough Army team. Army beat us last year at James M. Shuart Stadium with 2 seconds left in regulation. I know that because they showed highlights of it 1,000,000 times tonight. That was last year. In this years contest Hofstra beat Army in double 0t, and it was an awesoem game. Just ask Jumpoff J, as we were talking about it for most of the 4th quarter, and the following OTs.
Now, I think lax is a weak sport, but I love Hofstra Athletics, and whenever they are playing, I am rooting for them. I could watch a Hofstra lax game and actually enjoy it though. Its very entertaining.

We will be at the Big City Classic, April 4th, at the Mecca. Giants Stadium. Hofstra will be beating Delaware that day, and then we can make fun of Eric more. Whose Eric you ask? Eric used to blog here, until most readers told him his shit wasnt funny. I have told him he is welcome back though, and we hope he returns one day.

***Note***

The picture on this post is for Nick Colleluori. He was a member of the Hofstra Pride lacrosse team, that had his life cut short due to Lymphoma. The site is below, and check it out. Buy something, donate, or just read up on it. http://www.headstrongfoundation.org/Default.aspx

"If you had 48 hours to live..."

What would you do? Murda Ma$e said it best...

From the 19th and 20th, I did what I've been doing for the past five years. Dedicated 48 hours, 12 hours a day if you want to get technical watching the NCAA tournament. And trust me, it was the closest to 12 hours straight as you can get. From sunrise to sunset non-stop NCAA action.

I know I've got problems. I'm a sick dude. No normal individual takes off TWO days from work to watch basketball. I guess I can downplay the sadness I guess by saying that I took off on the 20th for my birthday. (Yes, I'm getting crazy old) But it was WELL worth it. What would March Madness be without my share of EPIC FAIL. Thank you Mayne Event Maynor, North Dakota State, Portland State, Wake Forest and Clemson. Ya'll suck!

On the bright side, my dudes and I still got a sick amount of lines left in our NCAA pool and Siena made the tournament absolutley insane! And once again, do not sleep on the mid majors and small schools folks.

Until next time snitches, peace out!

Road to the Final Four

Well the Sweet 16 is set, and I am pumped. We started out with 120 brackets in our big ass pool. I told people I wanted at least 80 when the weekend was over. We have 88.

After getting home from AC yesterday I was beat, but still watched the games. Since getting home, all games have been absolutely insane. Nail biters till the end. I am actually glad they are over, I need time to recover.

Today the Louisville, Pitt, Missouri, and Michigan State games were all too close for comfort. Every single game went out groups way today, which is unheard of. I guess we have a lot of Patriots fans in our group (everything goes there way, at all times).

Next week, we want:
UConn to beat Purdue
Pitt to beat Xavier
Memphis to beat Missouri
Michigan State to beat Kansas
Oklahoma to beat 'Cuse
UNC to beat Gonzaga
Duke to beat 'Nova
Louisville to beat Arizona

Cross them fingers.

-Brian
PS. It always seems that I have a PS after my posts, but whatever. It's my blog. This coming Friday, we are getting together in NYC, for all those that want to watch the games, let me know. The games should be entertaining considering there is much at stake.

Year 1 Down

For everyone that has been here since day 1 to 15, they might know my gripe with the Arizona State Sun Devils and their fans. Today, their 4 year ban of me rooting for them, is 1 year closer to ending. They got smacked up by Syracuse, and much to my delight, I loved seeing their fans on the television during this beatdown.

For those of you who havent been here since day 1-15 (damn bandwagoners). I will rehash what had happened. They beat Arizona, unranked at the time, while ASU was ranked 13th and home. Fans rushed the court. Thats flat out laughable. For that crime, I placed all of the university on a 4 year ban. This ban will last 4 years so all fans and players will be gone from the university, and we can start anew. Well 1 year down, 3 to go. Thanks Syracuse

Its Madness Baby

-Brian
PS. Arizona is still playing.

It's March Now

What a day for March Madness. UNC game was a dandy until the end, but the nightcap games were the real deal. You have Gonzaga vs. Western Kentucky, and The Dukies vs. Texas.

For our pool, we reallllllllllly needed Gonzaga, and Duke. Both games were tight throughout, and in true March Madness fashion, left me feeling queesy before the final buzzer sounded. Gonzaga was down at the half, but started the second half strong. According to the little box score at the top of the screen, it looked like the Zags had a 7 point lead in the second half. Before you know it, there is under a 10 seconds, and Gonzaga has the ball in a tie game. Go figure. Dmitry Goodson drives the lane, and puts it in. .9 seconds left, Western Kentucky chucks up a 3, and it falls short. Zags win. Gut wretching game 1 over.

Game 2. Duke had a 10 point lead towards the end, and, yes you guessed it. Texas goes on a 13-3 run to tie game. After a huge tip in by Kyle Singler to put Duke up 2, AJ Abrams spots up in the corner and rims a 3 in and out. WOWOWOWOWOW. Jumpoff J and I are going nuts. Later in the game (sorry its a blur, too much excitement) the ball was being tipped around, and almost out of bounds, Mr. Jon Scheyer makes the smartest play i've seen in a long time. He throws the ball to the other side of the court and wastes more time. With under 10 seconds to go, this was the games most important play. Duke ran it down, and got fouled. Elliot Williams missed both free throws, but David Mcclure was there to tip the ball out to Gerald Henderson, who then got fouled. Duke sinks the game winner at the line, and pandamonium breaks out. Well not really, but the DUKIES WIN BABY. THATS AWESOME WITH A CAPITAL A.

Jon Scheyer for your outstanding awareness and court savy, you get the picture of my blog.

Welcome to the madness

-Brian
PS. Jumpoff J celebrated a birthday yesterday. I was in AC, hence this being late. Happy Bday John, may all your teams epically fail this year, minus Hofstra.

Opening tip to One Shining Moment

So the first games have officially tipped off and we're in for a treat so far. The 8-9 game between LSU and Butler started off as a blowout but at the start of the second half, LSU is only up 6. MY dude Tas Mitchell has been in beast mode.

BYU is getting smacked up by Texas A&M at the half. But the real watcher is between (2)Memphis and (1) Cal State- Northridge. (Yes, that SAME CSU I dropped a blog on previously)

Keep an eye on this game. It's a damn fight.

As I'm blogging, Butler scored 5 straight and it's a one point game. I'll hit ya'll back in a bit.

-Jumpoff J

One last bracket...

Well....actually I'm not smart enough to figure out how to post my bracket...so here it goes:

Upsets:

West Va. in Elite 8
Purdue in Sweet 16
Texas in Sweet 16

Final 4:

Louisville
Memphis
Pittsburgh
North Carolina

Pittsburgh over Louisville in Final.

Bri-Guy's Bracket

Jumpoff J's Bracket

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and children of all ages! There is currently 11 hours, 47 minutes and 23 seconds until LSU and Butler tip off to begin March Madness!!!! Attached, you will see my bracket for the 2009 NCAA tourney. If you know me, I'm notorious for picking upsets. A majority of them backfire, but then there are those which just keep on truckin'. You can pretty much call me the King of Upsets since I pretty much called San Diego taking out UCONN, and got Western Kentucky's sweet-16 run correct. Also, I would have gotten Mayne Event Maynors correct two years ago, but I had happen to have chosen Duke. I mean come on, it's mothafucking DUKE! It was a win-win for me though. Please note, Bri-guy picked Duke to win as well. hahahaha

But yeah, let's get it! March Madness 2009! YOU READY?

Work Horses

Thankfully the Madness is almost upon us. It has been an exhausting last few days, as we have been going through brackets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Who is going to win? Who knows. What I do know is I hope its 1, 17, 33, 49 are in the Final Four. What's that you ask? Thats Louisville, UNC, UConn, and Pittsburgh. We get that from the number key we have been looking at for the past 72 hours STRAIGHT. So what if I know that Villanova is 51, and Purdue is 37. Ask me a team, any team, I got their number. Do the reverse, I dare you.

I think we have, no joke, put 12-15 man hours into this pool, we hope it pays off. Its all for fun, but we hope for it to get serious later on. That would be $$$$$$$$$$. We have so many combos and scenarios ready to unfold. I want it to be tip time tomorrow.

I love March Madness.

1, 17, 33, 34, 49 FTWWWWWWWW

Marty Party...

If you watched the Devils Marty Brodeur break the all time win record last night, it became apparent to you that basketball players are not the only ones who cut nets. Marty a la T.O. got his hand on a prop (a pair of scissors) and got to cutting....I'm sure that net will end up where he will in the coming years...The Hockey Hall of Fame....

Here is to you Mr. Brodeur, the best to ever play....THANK YOU

March Madne$$

Jumpoff J, Easy E, and myself are brainstorming hardcore. We are compiling our brackets for the Annual DannyBoys pool. This is a tough pool, but the winner is rewarded nicely. Ya gotta be in it to win it. We will be blogging throughout, and throwing up our numbers when they are good and ready to go. In this pool, you only pick the Final 4, none of that other garbage. We have until Friday March 20th, at 4PM, so we get a little extra time, since only the Final 4 matters. Anyone wanna get down on our group? Leave a comment, and let us know.

Last year, there were 150,000 entries, some from as far away as California. The pot reached 400k. In 1977, the pool's first year, there were fewer than 100 bettors trying to win about $1,000. This pool has come a looooong way.
Hey James, remember when i asked you to enter?

If we are alive Final 4 weekend, I can promise you this. WE'RE GONNA BE JUMPINNNNNNN'

Happy Bracketing

Manny, can I shake your hand?

No, but you can have a hug!

Just Manny being Manny... My dude!

Cut to the Chase...

It's being reported, that as we speak the J-E-T-S have intrest in Jay Cutler. I say do whatever it takes to land this TD slingin SOB. Trade our 1st round pick in 09' and 10' for him. He is a top caliber QB, and in the NFL you need one of those to win the Super Bowl.

With the Defensive changes that are not far off, Jay Cutler could be the missing piece that sends this Jets team over the top.

Favre was a mistake, knowing the Jets they will make another one by NOT landing a gunslinging QB this time.

GET HIM.

J-E-T-S baby...

Judgement Day!

Tonight's the night folks! At 6 p.m., college basketball's "Selection Sunday" will announce the 65 teams playing in the big dance. I was talking with my girl last night and she doesn't understand the big deal about it and why I'm so hyped up. She can't believe I'm taking off two days from work to watch the opening rounds. To tell you the truth, I don't know why either.

Anyway, I'm currently watching the Dukies lay the wood on FSU inthe ACC championship game. T-minus 3 hours and 40 minutes until showtime. "Anticipationnnnnnnnnnn!!! Is making me wait! Is keeping me waiting!"

-Jumpoff J

Cry Now, Laugh Later

Remember that picture of the kid crying at the Duke-Maryland game a couple of years back?

They're baaaaacccckkkk.. A few years later, someone snapped a candid of them at the ACC tourney yesterday... LOL!

Selection Sunday tonight, snitches! Ya'll ready?!

Jumpoff J, dishing the hate..

Point and Case

This blog entry is a little late, but I figured I would write it anyway. Listed below are prime examples of why this blog is titled appropriately. As i've name dropped 100 times before, we were at the Big East tournament throughout the week, and saw many many games. My rooting interest was not involved much, but every game I had a team that iIwanted to win. Rutgers was my team, but they faltered like usual.

First game of the tournament was Cincy/Depaul, I wanted Cincy to win, becuase I didnt find it fair that winless DePaul made the tournament, and had a shot to win. Cincy lost, giving Depaul its first win of the Big East season. Second game was Georgetown vs. St. Johns, and I wanted Georgetown to win, so St. Johns looks more and more like a joke in the NYC area. St. Johns won, pissing me off. So far at the tournament, I am 0-2. Bring on the night session. My team Rutgers started off the session taking on Notre Dame, Rutgers got smoked, and im 0-3. I didnt expect much from Rutgers but I wanted them to not play like typical Rutgers, which again, was out of the question. I cant go 0-4 can I? Indeed I can. USF got smoked by Seton Hall in the night session. What a terrible night. I suck at picking teams, but I wouldnt let this happen on Day 2.

Day 2 comes, and I am thinking, I should change up my strategy. I like Providence, but I wanted to see DePaul make a run in the tourney. I hate the Big East, and if DePaul could win, this tournament would lose credibility. Depaul has a second half lead on Providence, and I was excited cause I thought they can snap my streak. Providence takes the game over, and smokes them to finish them off. 0-5 at this point. Marquette vs. St. Johns, was the first game that went my way.. BOOYA. 1-5, and it felt good. With the feeling of euphoria taking over MSG, I was primed and ready to hit up the night session. I looked at is as 1-0, and undefeated. Like all good things, they must end. Enter Night Session number 2. West Va vs. Notre Dame. I hate both teams, but I decided to pull for Notre Dame as a lesser of 2 evils. Great choice, if I was going for 1-6. Game 2 pit Syracuse and Seton Hall. I absolutely loathe Eric Devendorf so I was pulling for Seton Hall, wrong again. Bringing my record to to a lofty 1-7. Who does that? Who has 8 games to watch, pick 8 diff. teams, and lose all but 1? ME.

2009 All Jarrett-Jack Team

So I'm sitting here enjoying a fantastic Big East tournament game between UCONN & Syracuse , when I get an IM from Bri-guy telling me that he dropped not one, but TWO blogs tonight. Reading his post, I couldn't have disagreed more with his All-Redick team. But I'm not Bill Simmons, and he's not Chad Forde. I'm gonna drop something different on ya'll. This is the All Jarrett-Jack team. But this team doesn't necessarily consist of the best players in the nation. (that's why they have the first team All-Americans) It's whom I consider to be the most ballin' players in the nation. Fuck post season appearances, standings, awards, rankings, etc. All that shit goes out the window. Real recognize real. Here are the chosen few to receive the first ever All Jarrett-Jack team. Congrats!

1. Eric Maynor (VCU)

2. Chavis Holmes (VMI)

3. Travis Holmes (VMI)

4. Wink Adams (UNLV)

5. Lester Hudson (UT-Martin)

Yes, I noticed that the whole team is full of guards. It's just a coincidence.

And by the way, Bri-guy's DICKrider V award (Best commentator) will be taken over by college basketball's best commentator Gus Johnson. Just wait until tourney time baby. You'll see. Need more proof? You be the judge.

Waiting for this damn game to end then it's time to knock out. Peace out haters.

-Jumpoff J

2008-2009 Rolls-Royce Team

Here is my 2008-2009 NCAA Honors. I've read the emails, and I am sorry its taken me so long to get this team up and posted, but for your viewing pleasure here it is:

Commentator Of The Year:

After careful consideration for all parties, this was an easy choice. The winner, is obvious, and anyone who knows me knows I roll Team Dicky V. Vitale is an influential leader on the microphone and he tells the game how it is. With his dipsy do dunkaroos, and his diaper dandie calls, the game is always entertaining. Congrats Dicky V. Your award is in the mail.

Coach of the Year:

This was a tough one. I was ready to give it to Buzz Williams, but after DJ Dominic James went down, his team went down as well. They just couldnt pull it together, and thats a shame. The Coach of the Year goes to Jamie Dixon. Jamie has coached his Pittsburgh Panthers to their first and second ever number 1 ranking. Also, he has been a class act all year. Congrats

All JJ Redick Team:

1. Stephen Curry (Davidson)

2. Jon Scheyer (Duke)

3. Zygis Sestokas (Hofstra)

4. Andy Routins (Syracuse)

5. Terrence Ogilsby (Clemson)

These 5 players have all shown excellent 3 point range, and have made college basketball a better place for all.

The "That Dude" Team:

1. Eric Maynor (VCU)

2. Stephen Curry (Davidson)

3. Charles Jenkins (Hofstra)

4. Blake Griffin (Oklahoma)

5. Terrence Williams (Louisville)

These 5 athletes have all showed they can take over a game, and just propel their teams to victory, while exciting haters like myself.

Our last award of the night, is the team I expect to win the National Championship. I apologize in advance for ruining this teams chances at winning, but without further adieu:

The 2006 Hoftra Pride Award goes to:

Louisville Cardinals- This team is stacked, and has all players that i like minus Edgar Sosa. Lets do this Louiville.

My New Beef

Many of you know, the past 2 nights I have been using our "media credentials" at the Big East Tournament. Tonight I took a night off to get home at a decent hour of the night, and to drop a blog. My recent celebrity status has really taken a toll on me. But yea, lets get down to bidness.

So as i'm sitting in MSG the past 2 nights, I am thinking to myself "Conference tournaments are just another way to crush the mid major.". Who effin cares about UConn/Syracuse? It doesnt matter which teams wins, they are both going dancing in March, and this only secures a seed. This is along the same lines with my gripe of the Bracketbusters (see older post). The CAA was a great league this year, like last year, and the many years before that. VCU played George Mason in the tournament championship and VCU w/ Mayne Event came out on top. This league was so balanced, that conference play hurt teams chances for at-large bids.

The Big East and its 140 teams all make the tournament and grab the national spotlight, which they should. But, my gripe is this. Why even give Depaul a shot in the tournament? They didnt even win a conference game. It was pathetic. They roll into NYC, and knock of Cincinatti though. I am kind of getting off topic here, but let me shoot you straight...

MAJOR CONFERENCES SHOULDNT HAVE TOURNAMENTS.

These teams had their chance to play their way into the tournament the entire year based off of their conference schedule right? Isnt that the excuse people use for teams that are in hug conferences but dont have signature wins? Let the Mid Majors play these tournaments, and have them more in the national spotlight coming down the home stretch.

This is a pipe dream, and I know the money is absurd that these tournaments pull in, I just want a more level playing field. I used to love the majors until i went to Hofstra. Now, it is very hard for me to pull for 1 of these teams. I want to see the little guy do their thang.

Lets go VCU in this years tourney. All Day.

March Sadness

So unless you've been living under a rock this past week, college basketball's "March Madness" has officially begun. Before the 65 teams are even announced, I've already been let down by my favorite squads. Hofstra lost a heart breaker this past weekend in Richmond (which I witnessed live) and Champions week has been nothing but a nightmare. UT-Martin (My homeboy Lester Hudson , 2nd leading scorer in the NATION) lost in the semi-finals of the OVC tournament and my projected "sleeper squad" VMI lost in the Big South. Epic fucking fail. The Holmes twins and the Keydets are by far the most exciting squad in the nation to watch with their run and gun style of ballin. A big fuck you to Artsiom Parakhouski and Radford for spoiling it.

At least Eric "Mayne Event" Maynor is going to hold it down for the CAA. Flashback to the '07 big dance where they spanked Bri-guy's beloved Dukies. To add to my pain, I picked Duke to win this game.

Jumpoff J, peacing out!

Price tag...FREE

So as you may or may not know, Bri Guy and myself have been regular attendees at the Big East tournment so far this year. I've been to 3 of the 4 sessions, and Brian has been a straight up warrior and gone to all 4. Whats the big deal you say? Anyone can buy tickets. Right? Wrong. Tickets to the tourney are not on sale to the public...they are only given to corporations and schools. We're not in school anymore, and we sure as shit arent a corporation. So I know what you're asking yourselves...how did these two schmucks get into the worlds most famous arena. It's called scalping 101...I know I know...you're not impressed anyone can pay $50 for 2 tickets and get into the game. Cost to go into the garden on our lunch break on Tuesday? $0 Cost to go into the graden on our lunch break on Wednesday? $0...you know how we do it all day baby...free tickets like whoa...a big shout out THANK YOU to the two gentlemen that hooked it up for us the past few days. Celeb Sighting

On our lunch break today, Eric and I used our "media credentials" to go to the noon game of the Big East Tournament. We watched Cincy/Depaul. Kinda boring, but we go to so many games, its hard to wet the palette. On the way out, we were walking next to Chris Mullin and Anthony Mason. We each gave simple hello's, and that was that. Since this blog has gone up, we have been in the celebrity eye. I hope this continues. Mullin/Mason were probably upset at us, for lack of updates today. Sorry Guys

Celebrity Sighting..

So after a few weeks of running this blog, it has created many opportunities for me. I have posted in the past about my multiple run-ins with Sam Rosen, but as of late, I cant stop talking to all these fine athletes (fine in the sense meaning good at their trade, not fine meaning good looking). Last week, Mikey Fells and I were talking to MC12, Marques Colston about him coming to the Jets, and his chances on the Pro Bowl next year. That conversation isnt out of the ordinary, as he is a Hofstra grad, and loves the Pride. The next few run ins might be though. Saturday night in Richmond, after Mason won their game against James Madison, Jimmy Larranaga couldnt help himsef but come over to us, and talk blog. He was sorry that Hofstra had lost, and knew my sports woes have been very taxing on me. Later on, he wanted to take a picture with Scott and I, so he can be on the blog as well. He is a real nice guy, and a great coach. I wish him the best. Also, its nice to see that he is a real fan of our blog.

Later that evening, while enjoying the Northeastern/Towson game, Dre' Smith an NCAA record holder (10-10 shooting the trey in 1 game) approached me, and asked me for a minute of my time. I obliged, and we had a short convo. He was a nice guy, and wanted to give me a jersey of his, but i had no interest in it, and wished him luck Sunday.

For those of you who admire what we do on this blog, and are jealous of our conversations with such celebritiesas, its not too hard to blog. If you need help setting one up, I would to be of assistance.

PS. JJ Redick had 9 points tonight.

UFC 98: BLACK ON BLACK CRIME

Hofstra's tournament hopes wasn't the only thing that went down this past weekend. Saturday after we say my homeboy Junior Hairston run train on the WACK pack and them Drexel girls, Bri-guy and I headed back to the fort to catch the Quentin "Rampage" Jackson / Keith Jardine throwdown.

It came down to a decision, but it was pretty much evident that Rampage was gonna put the beatdown on the good ol' "Dean of Mean".

So with this victory now in hand, Rampage now becomes the number one contender for the title in the UFC light heavyweight divison. He will face at UFC 98, my dude Sugar Rashad Evans. Rashad, who won the title at UFC 92 with a beatdown on Forrest Griffin came to the octogon after the fight and had a little stare me down with the new number one contender. I'm hyped son! May 23, 2009 in Las Vegas. Shit will be going down!

Sugar Rashad ALL DAY!

Jumpoff J, peacing the fuck out!

You Win Some, You Lose Some

So our weekend in Richmond is over, and for a group of fans that had their team lose a heartbreaker, the weekend was still A OK.

We got down there at 3am Friday morning, pounded an MD 20/20 and headed to bed. Woke up, walked over to the Coliseum to see Hofstra beat the ef out of UNC-W. After the game, we headed back to the room, grabbed some dinner, and went back to Coliseum to talk some shit to opposing fans errrrr, watch the night cap to root against Drexel. We missed the William and Mary/James Madison game, which we were happy about. So when we finally sat in our seats for the Drexel game, we were kinda tired, and ready to watch some ball. Drexel got smashed, and it was effing awesome. Towson laid the wood to them, and taunted them as well.

As many people know, Beer Pong is another sport that I take very seriously, so after the games, we went to a friends house for the first ever CAAzone Beer Pong Tournament. You guessed it, we won. What else is new? Pretty good way to wrap up a great night in Richmond.

Saturday morning was a good one, as we headed to the Coliseum. The first game was ehh, but we didnt care. We were there for Hofstra. As we took our seats in the Hofstra Alum/Parent section the game was here, and we were ready to roll. Right out the game, we were down 9-2, and it wasnt looking good, but in true Hofstra fashion we went on a 20-2 run, and led by 11. The game was back and forth, as we took a 1 point lead into halftime. The second half started rather crappy, as we were down 10 with under 10 left. Like mentioned earlier though, in true Hofstra fashion we had a 1 point lead with about 1 minute remaining. Sad thing, in true Brian sports loving, Hofstra was down 3 with 9 seconds left. As Charles Jenkins cut the lead to 1 with 9 seconds left, this is where the game got crazy. ODU inbounded the ball, and turned it over after a scrum on the floor. HU BALLLLLLL. 3.6 ticks left, as we were in the timeout. Clearly Jenkins was the man to get the ball, everyone knew it, including ODU. As he grabs the inbounds pass, he is guarded right away, turning away from the basket. Takeover drives the lane, slips, and barely gets a shot off. Hofstra Losses. Another year ends in dissapointment in Richmond, but this didnt get us down. We grabbed dinner, and then headed over for the night cap. Which was cool, as Towson beat Northeastern (*Northeastern is located in Boston, so i was so happy they lost).

PS. Junior Hairston FTW. Love that dude.

I cant wait to go down to Richmond again, it was a blast.

Sorry for the lack of hate during this blog, but we had a great weekend, and hate wasnt needed for this.

PPS. Point and Case for the reason I write the blog. I NEVER WIN.

Is it April 25th yet?

Champs!!!!!!!

So the 2009 CAAzone Beer Pong championship was held last night in Richmond, VA. As a lover of pong, I felt like it was necessary to enter this tournament. At Hofstra, I was an avid player of pong, and normally had 1 teammate. His name Scott Crawford. His game was pong.

Last night after Drexel was rocked at the Coliseum for the 19th straight year, we all headed to his apartment. The brackets were set up, and we had a play-in game. Can you believe that? A play-in game? What were they thinking? Well, our play in game was quick, as we smoked those VCU fans. Our second game was quick, yadda yadda yadda. We are in the championship game. We jumped out to an early lead 5-1, which quickly went to 5-4. Was Scott and I nervous? NO. We had it all night long. Cmon now. We sank the last cup, and a moment of mass hysteria broke out.

Champs baby, all day everyday.

Takin' Over

We in the buildinggggggggggg. Just got back to the hotel after the Hofstra win. Man this game wasnt even close. We rocked them from start to finish 79-66. Charles Jenkins did his thang. The Takeover shot 9-16 and scored a game high 27. Greg Washington also had a dominating game, shooting 7-9 and scoring 14 points.

Todays game let Hofstra fans make the first checkmark on their tourney revenge list. UNC-W defeated us in the Championship game in 2006, and a win in the tourney vs. them was extremely sweet. Next checklist team is Old Dominion tomorrow at 2:30, and we hope to throw them a good ol' Hofstra beatdown.

I expect big things from Darren Townes tomorrow who is the inspirational leader of this team. Its going down tomorrow, we hope to lay the wood to these bastars from Old Dominion. There is obviously no love loss between the teams and fans.

Jumpoff J, Scott, Mikey Fells and myself are about to down some Mad Dog 20/20 and enjoy the nigh session.

Sorry to all Cincinatti Bengals fans that read the blog. Oh wait, we have no Bengals fans that read the blog? Phew. They got effin ripped off today. Who would give L. Coles a 4 year 28 million dollar contract? Thats insane. This guy was nothing but a little bitch in New York..

Reporter: Whats going on out their Laverneous? You dropped 3 passes today.

LC: Wah, Wah, did you see me on Oprah? I had a tough childhood, Wah Wah.

Reporter: Whats it's like catching passes from Favre?

LC: Wah, Wah I want my boyfriend Chad back. He knew i was an over the hill receiver but he still through me 5 yard slant routes, 15 times a game.

Reporter: How do you feel about this teams collapse after starting 8-3?

LC: Wah, Wah.. I hate you media, leave me alone. I dont want to talk to you, all you do is bruise my ego. Wah Wah.

I hope Cincinatti has a tampon disposal in the stalls for him. He is a little girl, and im pleased he wont be in NY this year, or ever again.
