**Official Kentucky Derby Picks**

Alright folks, after much ado, and 5 previous updates I've come to my Derby conclusions for 2009. With Quality Road out of the race, it was much harder to handicap. I will be giving a Win bet, a Trifecta bet, an Exacta bet, and a longshot bet. Remember, these are SUGGESTIONS only, but if you do win any money feel free to give me a shout out. Here goes nothing:

Winner: #6 Friesan Fire

$1 Exacta Box: 6, 10, 11, 16, 20 ($20 bet)

$1 Trifecta Part Wheel: 6,13 with/ 3, 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 15, 19 ($84 bet)

Longshot Bets: #11 Chocolate Candy (20-1 ML odds) and #19 Desert Party (15-1 ML odds)

All in all the first Saturday every May is always one of my favorites. The Kentucky Derby is the greatest horse race in the world, and a major American institution.

And we're off...

Derby Update v5.0...

WOW...what can I say, we have had a lot of defections from this years race due to injury, and I must say without Quality Road racing I have much less of a feel for the race.

Today posts were drawn, and the morning line odds were set.

I will be taking a closer look at the race on Thursday and/or Friday, and posting my final picks on the blog by Friday night.

Back To Reality...

One Minute and Twenty Seconds. 80 Seconds. Thats all that separated the New Jersey Devils from round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Instead, one of the most EPIC failures in the history of the franchise and mine and Bri guys fandom. Yours truly, and Bri guy were at the decisive game 7 last night at the ROCK in downtown Newark, NJ. The Devils held a 3-2 lead LATE in the 3rd period. Carolina scored with 1:20 left to play to tie the game at 3. Fine. We will just have to win in Overtime. Less than 50 seconds later the place was silent. Eric Staal beat Marty Brodeur with a wrist shot from the circle, and the Canes took a 4-3 lead with only 30 seconds to play. From up a goal to shaking hands as the losing team in a matter of 50 seconds. How quickly things can change in the world of sports.

I wont say it's the worst loss in Devils history, because it was only the 1st round of the playoffs, but it's without a doubt the worst loss I've ever attended in person.

Just when I thought it was over...the Nightmares continue...here's to next season

Hakeem The Dream

As you know, Bry-Guy and I were in attendance at this year's NFL draft. It didn't take long for it to become an epic experience for us.... Well for me at least. Anyway, as confident as this clown Brian may seem, you should have seem him when the Jet's made their pick at #5. My dude was pouting like a five-year old, arms crossed, sitting in them comfy Radio City seats as I laughed uncontrollably.

But enough with this clown Sanchez. I'll drop my hate on him in another post. Back to the draft business. Big Blue this past weekend went to WORK with their pickups. They stuck with their game plan and found a replacement for the recently departed Plaxico Burress. I am happy to say that I'm not dissapointed with the Giants selection of HAKEEEEEM NICKS!

I've been a fan of dude even before he declared for the draft. I usually don't boast, but back before Plax became the irresponsible, glock toating idiot, I saw something special in him and knew that he'd be a special player on the field. I see the potential in Hakeem the Dream as well.

Still not convinced that "The Dream" is the truth?? Even Jet's superfan aka The Sanchez Sackrider, Brian was campaigning for the JETS to pick him.... Hahahaha

Peace out haters.

-Jumpoff J

Game 7.

The two most exciting, and nerve wrecking words for a sports fan. After their less than lackluster showing last night down in Carolina, the Devils have joined the Hurricanes with their backs against the wall.

Tomorrow night at the Prudential Center aka "The Rock" it's going down, and Bri Guy and myself will be there to see it happen live.

If the Devils come out as flat as they did in Game 6, it's going to be a long Summer, BUT...I think Sutter will have the troops ready to play tomorrow night.

Prediction: Devils 3 Canes 2

Derby Update v4.0...

So in true Trio fashion, the horse that I've been backing for a few weeks now "Quality Road" developed a SECOND 1/4 crack and today was offically taken out of contention for running on Saturday.

Figures the year that I KNOW I have this race pegged, I'm now sent back to the drawing board.

This makes the race a lot more interesting in my opinion, and I'll have to do some final lookovers in the coming days before making my final selections now that QR is out.

Check back for one more Derby Update before the race on Saturday.

Mark Sanchez Baby

So, yesterday, Me, and Jumpoff J attended the 2009 NFL Draft. What an event it was. With my team picking at 17, and his team picking at 29, we had our day planned out for us. I came into the draft wanting J-Mac outta Mizzou, or maybe, if Michael Crabtree fell to us, or we traded up, we could have had him. The QB situation was hairy, and I was in favor of Josh Freeman, despite what i heard about him.
Stafford goes 1 to the Lions, Jason Smith to the Rams, blah blah blah, and MARK SANCHEZ TO THE JETS AT 5. WoWWWWWWww. The Jets traded up 12 spots to draft a stud in the making. At first i was demoralized with the news of this, but after sleeping on it, I couldnt be happier. The Jets always need a QB, year after year, our QB situation is doodie, and maybe next year, for once, it wont be. Maybe this is our time.

Im sure John will post a blog on his day, and he will say I was miserable, which i was, but yesterday was a good day for the Jets, and i am PUMPED.

Keep Em Comin'

The Trio tries to help. We are reaching out to all young and unestablished writers, and urging them to submit their work to us. Only the best of the best will make the blog.

We didnt have the response we wanted, so this was the one and only one that got submitted. Its from a young writer in Long Island. He currently has a job at a small unknown paper "The New York Daily News". He is a Hofstra Grad, and a former suitemate of mine. Some of his failures include epically FAILing twice i Fantasy Football in 1 season, and being a huge curse with all his sports teams.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/galleries/nfls_biggest_draft_busts/nfls_biggest_draft_busts.html#ph0

I have a few contacts at the Daily News, so I was able to get him his wish, and it was online.

Congrats James,

Ouch

So another moment to add to the misery. Game 4 betwen the Canes and Devils was tonight in Carolina, and what a game we saw. The Canes took a 3-0 lead late into the 2nd period, until Brian Gionta finally lit the lamp. Going into the 3rd period, I thought we had a shot, but not a very good one. Fast forward 3 minutes in, Shanny finds the back of the net, and we have ourselves a playoff game. A few minutes later, David Clarkson tied the game, and Boom goes the dynamite.

What a game of emotions. We were down 3, down 2, down 1, and then tied. With under a minute to go, I am thinkin OT for the 3rd game in a row. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.... not so fast. With .2 seconds left in the game, Marty lets one sneak past him, and the Devils lost. Series tied at 2, Easy E, and myself will be at game 5 reporting for ya'll.

Go Devs,
-Brian

Amazing

I was away this weekend so I couldn't drop a bomb in regards to the NBA playoffs. I admit, the playoffs have lost it's luster and it really doesn't help that the Knicks suck chode.

But just a minute ago, Ray Allen just hit a game winning 3 in a back-and-forth battle with the baby Bulls. Ben Gordon was lights out tonight son.

Here's a video I had initally tried to post before the playoffs. It mos def got my hyped for this years playoffs.

Hasta La Vista Oscar!

The Golden Boy announced this afternoon that he will be retiring from the sport of the boxing. A career resume which includes ten world titles in six different weight classes and at one point boxing's most popular fighter.

Am I surprised? Hell no. After being Pacman's punching bag four months ago he'd be absolutely INSANE to even think about another fight. But real recognize real though. De La Hoya was in one of the most anticipated fights of all-time when he faced the former undisputed pound-for-pound king, Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. Best believe he's living well of that $120 million beans generated by PPV sales alone.

So I'll pour some Mad Dog 20/20 for another fallen legend. This is for the career of the Golden Boy. We taking bets on how long and who he'll be facing next? De La Hoya/Mayweather Part. II, Battle of the Retirees?

Till' next time hater.

FIRE GIRARDI!!!!!!!

Yankees got rolled tonight. Thats not my gripe. Nick Swisher pitching is my gripe. The dude leads the team in RBI's and Homers, but you still bring him into pitch in a game that was well out of hand? You are the effin manager Joe, if he asks to pitch, you simply reply "No", its not hard. What happens if he hurt his arm? What happens if he takes a liner off the dome piece? Also, love the lineup, and the cohesive unit this team plays as.

Eat Chode
-Brian

3-4

Playoffs? Playoffs! Playoffs!?...

So the NHL playoff matchups are all set, unfortunately the Rangers made it, but such is life. The New Jersey Devils will be facing the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round, so I thought I'd offer my opinion, and pick:

Offense: The Devils have the best offensive player (at least according to the numbers) in Zach Parise who was 3rd in the NHL in goals scored this season with 45. The Devils also have a lot of other offensive talent, and as usual roll 4 lines deep. The Hurricanes most skilled offensive player in my mind is Eric Staal. They also throw at you guys like Ray Whitney, Erik Cole (who you know is a prick because he spells Eric w/ a k), and a "savy" vet Rod Brind'Amour (easily one of the uglier players in the NHL). The Canes have been hot lately. Advantage: Hurricanes

Defense: The Devils have had one of the most feared defenses in the NHL for years. This seasons crew isnt quite as good as the teams with Stevens, Niedermayer, and Rafalski, but they do have some offensivly skilled D-men including Johnny Oduya, and Paul Martin. And some solid rocks back on D like Colin White and Bryce Salvador. Carolina has a few good D men themselves, including Anton Babchuk, and Joe Corvo, but they are not as deep as the Devils on the blue line. Advantage: Devils

Goaltending: Cam Ward is good. He is very good, and he has playoff experience under his belt, BUT...Marty Brodeur is the best in the world, and he will be the freshest he's ever been coming into the playoffs having played only 31 games this year. Advantage: Devils

Special Teams: Both teams were about 19% on the Power play, and 80% on the PK this season, but as was evident by the final game of the regular season, the Hurricanes PP is DANGEROUS. Advantage: Hurricanes

Intangibles: The Devils have a veteran team, a world class goalie, and have been here before. They know they need to step their game up if they are to get past Carolina in the first round. Carolina comes into the series as one of the hottest teams in the NHL, and plays in front of a great home crowd. The Devils experience gives them the edge here. Advantage: Devils

Prediction: If the Devils are able to stay out of the penalty box, they should be able to get past Carolina in the first round. DEVILS in SIX.

Please Trade...

Melky Cabrera and Hideki Matsui.. PLEASEEEEEE.. They're awful. The Yanks blew a 1 run 8th inning lead today to the Royals and fall to 3-3 on the year. Joba pitched decently, but not Joba'esque. Cant leave games up to your bullpen, especially when you are the Yanks. Tomorrow night, Wanger gets the ball and looks to start a new winning streak. Lets go Yanks.

Beat Tampa
-Brian

3-3

Carsten Charles Sabathia

CC Sabathia baby. What an effin workhorse. The dude goes 7.2 innings tonite, and didnt walk, or allow a run all game. I am pumped to watch him this season. Yankees are up 6-0 in the 8th as I blog, and it looks like they continue to put the first 2 games of the season behind them. 3 wins in a row, and the merry go round keeps turning. Tomorrow Mr. Chamberlain takes the bump for his season debut. Lets Go Yanks Baby

3-2

Yankee Time

So, year after year, John and I make a friendly bet with the Yankees and their wins, or playoff hopes. I am 2 for 2, and obviously that makes John 0 for 2. I looooooooooooove when John losses. I'm not sure what I enjoy more, John losing, or me winning?? I will post this up here now, and update our bet soon, as John and I will have to formulate it. Our past 2 bets were for shots of Patron at the bar. Year 1, John manned up, and we drank it down. Year 2 though, I felt bad for John, so I just used his stat tracker for our FFL.

Johny Man, You Ready for 0-3?

Im Back

Sorry for my absence, but it has been a very, very tumultous week for me. Monday nights National Championship game really hit me hard. We were 1 point away from 1900 each, and 2 points away from 4000. DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNN. I wont go into it furter, because ya'll know the deal. We lost, we suck, we have a blog cause we always lose and suck.

This blog will recap the week I missed.

Baseball has started, and the Yanks are doing work. 2 game winning streak after starting the year out Yankee-like. CC Sabathia is on the bump tomorrow as the Yanks look to extend their streak to 3 games. Yankee Doodle Andy, and AJ looks solid as can be in their first starts of the year. It also looks like Cano, Damon, and Tex are hot to trot this year. I am excited for this team, for now.

Hofstra Lax smacked up Drexel and moved up to 5th in the polls this week.

Devils clinch the 3 seed in Hockey, and the Rangers also clinched. Hoping the Rangers lose first round, and the Devils win another cup. We will be following that more next week, when the playoffs get underway.

Sorry again for the absence in blogs, It shall not happen again. By now I should be used to it right? Guess not.

March Happiness!

Well, I guess not everything was bad this March. Even though I did miss out on some pretty good bank, I did walk away with one thing. Shit talking rights for a whole YEAR! That's right folks. Your boy Jumpoff J walks away with bragging rights for a whole year after beating out three other chumps. (Scotty Man, Bry-guy, and Rocafeller)

If you know me, I don't win very often. And yet, I talk a whole lot of shit. Now that I've got this title I'll be lucky to be alive next year. Can someone please give me some competition? Seriously folks.

Till next year everyone. Peace out.

HEARTBREAK CITY!

Well folks, the title pretty sums it up... The tremendous trio's legacy lives on, as words cannot express the amount of disappointment I've felt the past twenty-four hours.

Unlike the past couple of years, this years NCAA tournament was the second most uneventful tourney I've ever witnessed. (Besides all four number one seeds making the Final Four last year).

But the championship game put the dagger in our hearts. It came down to the FINAL seconds. We were one point away from $19k.. 2 fucking points from $39k... Our fate came down to free-throws and layups! All of us weren't sitting together to watch the game, but I'm pretty sure as the seconds went by, we were subtracting the amount of points needed to reach 162, 163, and 164. Final total score? 161... $0 dollars...

Bry-guy took it the hardest. I was scared he'd be put on suicide watch... I just gave you the gist of things. I'll let him tell you the rest.

Run for the Roses update...

So a lot has happened since the last Kentucky Derby update...I want revenge was a last to first winner in the Wood at the Big A, and he's taken over the horse that I touted last time Quality Road as the favorite heading into the first saturday in May.

If you want to lose money on derby day, all you have to do is listen to that fat sob that ESPN will have on the tube, Hank Greenberg.

If you want to win money on derby day, here is what I'm thinking as of right now:

I'm sticking with Quality Road (if I liked him a few weeks ago nothing to change now), you have to respect the public, and think of I Want Revenge as a possibilty also. Friesan Fire is going to be a MAJOR player here, and I wouldnt be suprised to see him in the money. Pioneerof the Nile is going to be a money burner this year, my advice is stay away from the west coast shipper. If he gets into the field watch out for this longshot: Theregoesjojo

Still 4 weeks or so until Derby day, and anything can happen but to recap:

Winner: Quality Road

In the running: I Want Revenge, Friesan Fire

Overrated: Pioneer of the Nile

Longshot: Theregoesjojo

And away I go....

Snoozer Yet Again..

Another Hofstra/Delaware matchup passes, and the same result is in. Hofstra WINS, Hofstraaaaaaa Wiiiiiiiiins.

The Big City Classic, at "The Mecca" Giants Stadium took place yesterday. In the 3rd and final game of the Triple Header, Hofstra defeated Delawhere? 10-8. The 7th ranked Pride are poised and ready for the NCAA Tourney this year, and nothing short of a Final Four will be accepted in my eyes. (expect a first round exit)

Sorry Easy E,

-Brian

Fresh Grass, Nice Dirt, ALL HATE

Finally, Baseball is back. With that being said, ya'll know what that means. BASEBALL CHALLENGE is here. We created our group, we picked our teams, and most of us have some hate ready to be spewed.

What Baseball Challenge entails is this: You pick a every defensive position, a DH, and a Pitching Staff, based off of a salary cap of 50 million. 1 point for a single, 2 for a double, 3 for a triple, 6 for a solo homer. Runs, Stolen Bases are also 1 point. Pitching is as follows. You get a point per out. -1 per hit, -3 per ER, and -1 per base on balls. If your team wins, you get +5. Sounds Easy, and it is. You just have to stay on top of the variables. Weather, Matchups, and Doubleheaders. Stay eye on the prize.

Our group name is "The Haters Ball", and has the nations biggest haters. Lazy E, Mikey Fells, and Jumpoff J, and myself are all after the prize. OHHHHH MAINNNN.

Who will win? Me

I will keep ya updated.

Jumpoff J Weekly Recap vol. PlaxiCUT Burress

I don't recall the last time I got SERVED so fucking bad in a given week.

First serving occurs on Tuesday morning. I go to the dentist to have a "small" cavity filled. I'm like okay, drill that little motherfucker, fill it up, and get me the hell out of here. Dentist is drilling when he says to me "Oh wow, I see a little piece of your NERVE sticking out. Maybe that's why your teeth are very sensitive and you feel pain. We're going to have to give you root canal treatment. SERVED #1.

I leave to go into work late and I'm bombarded as soon as I walk in. Requests here. Taking meetings here. Blah blah blah. I didn't even change my fantasy basketball team that morning. SERVED #2.

Throughout the day I log on to ESPN to cater to my sports misery. And what do I see on the front page? "Ichiro placed on DL with ulcer." MY favorite baseball player in the league is put onto the 15 day DL at the start of the season. SERVED #3.

Friday comes along and I'm just fucking HYPED for Saturday. You know, for the Final Four? Maybe you heard of it? I'll get into that in a second. Anyway, I'm sitting at my desk doing work/hating on the Easy E and Brian via e-mail when I get an e-mail from ESPN moblie. "ESPN News- Giants announced that they have released WR Plaxico Burress, who faces gun charges." EPIC SERVED #1 There goes the G-Men's only deep threat playmaker, and debatebly a top 3 wide receiver next to King Colston and Larry Fitzgerald. I don't even know what we're going to do anymore.

The Final Four jumpoff that we had been hyping all week happened last night, and thankfully folks, WE'RE STILL ALIVE! We had UCONN winning this game. Unfortunately they suck chode and got tooled by Kalin Lucas & Co. SERVED #4! It just shows that the Big Least sucks, and is overrated. My homeboys Danny Green and Psycho T dd work on Nova though. UNC is still left in our pool. So I guess not ALL is bad. We're pulling for them to win it all tomorrow! Let's do this son! Allllll dayyyyyy!

I'm out folks! I've got a fantasy baseball draft in a half hour. I'll holla when I see ya.

April Fools? NO? WTF?

I go onto one of my favorite websites today for Mid Major Athletics, CAAZone.com. I then get to my favorite part of the site, Hofstra's board. Once the page is done loading, I see a thread entitled Pecora extended through 2014. My first inclination was "ahahahah, April Fools", regardless I click to open the thread. I read it over, and see a link. Still i'm thinking fake link, April Fools. I open the link, and its effin real. WTF is Hofstra thinking? Are they stupid? Obviously. Why bring this guy back? Are they going for the record of longest stints without an NCAA birth? Or do they want the record for softest schedule in the country for the 10th straight year. I heard it through the grape vine we have a home game vs. Lindenhurst Girls JV this year. That should really boost our RPI.

Tom Pecora extended? I am so peeved.

BTW. New Beat the Streak. I am 1-1, with Phoenix going for me right now. Lets go. 13 straight wins gets you a free shirt.

-Brian

It's happening again...

So we started this blog off by telling you guys how terrible our teams are. So far, all 8 of you are probably thinkin, what the hell is "The tremendous trio" talking about...well, it's happened before, and as the title of this blog says...it's happening again. As I write this to you the Penguins have just scored their SIXTH goal of the game, and have a 6-1 lead over the former New Jersey Devils. I call them "former", becuase they aint the team they were a few weeks ago. In about 20 minutes, the Devils will have completed their 6th consecutive loss, and with the season winding down, it looks like they are bombing at just the right time. Usually I'd be a little sour about this, but the Mets have had 2 end of season collapses the past 2 years, and the Jets had a marvelous end of season collapse this season. The Devils are just doing exactly what the Tremendous trio expects...Letting them down.

It's Happening Again. And I don't like it.
