A look into my love/hate relationship with Hofstra Basketball

Ok, this post will hopefully allow me to begin to bring you into the life that is Hofstra Basketball.

When i was a freshmen there, going to a game was very "uncool", our team sucked, and the fans were extremely apathetic. I went a couple of times with friends, but just wasnt really into the atmosphere, or lack there of.

Sophmore year is when things started to turn around. The first half of the season was just like freshmen year. This time i went more often though. Second semester though, things picked up. The fans got into it, and the student section was starting to get rocking and rowdy. We were very decent at best, but the games were fun to go to. Towards the end of the year, the CAA tournament came, and sinc it was in Richmond, VA, we werent going, impossible to get to, Hofstra aint paying. I just hoped the student support would carry over for the next year.

Junior year, my wishes came true, and the atmosphere was totally Awesome baby with a capital A (love ya dicky v). This is also, where I met a great group of friends, which to this day i am close with many, and even blog with 1. We had a long home winning streak, which peaked at number 2 in the entire nation, we rolled teams, and we had a blast. We even went to Richmond, Va for the CAA tourney. Not tooting my horn, but my friends and I were the ones who organized it, and brought everything to fruition. What a time we had. We beat Drexel, and bowed out to ODU the following day after blowing a 9 point half time lead. What was so great about this though was it was our first ever CAA tourney win.

Senior year (part 1, yes i had 2 senior years) was the magic. This will go down as one of the greatest years of my life. Lets cut to the chase, we protected our house, and took care of business as it came our way. The magic happened in February, when then ranked #25 George Mason came into "The Macka" and we stomped their faces for Hofstra's first ever win over a ranked team. Fast forward 10 days, we were playing in the CAA Finals on ESPN. In typical HU fashion we were down 21 at one point, but fought long and hard and cut the lead to 3. We lost, and we were crushed. Our last hope was Selection Sunday, and we were very confident on getting this bid. We didnt. FUCK YOU SELECTION COMMITTEE. Let Air Force in, Let George Mason in, albeit Mason made the Final Four that year, but w beat them twice in 11 days. Whose to say we wouldnt have slapped up Joakim Noah, and Al Horford? Ya never know.

Senior year part 2 was nothing special, we were all still very very bitter over our snub. I still am to this day, and dont want to talk about it.

Presently as of 24 seconds ago, we just beat Old Dominion on ESPN U, and are poised for a 4 seed in the CAA tourney. Thats if we dont fuck up. The title of this blog is very accurate, stay tuned for future mess ups. until then... H-O-F-S-T-R-A Hofstraaaaaaaa
